Her Excellency Pirjo Suomela-Chowdburry, the Ambassador of Finland who is in the country as part of the celebrations marking the 100th anniversary of Finland’s Independence, paid a courtesy call on Hon. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, Minister for Communications. The Ambassador is resident in Abuja, Nigeria and she is in the country to organise the “Codebus” project that the Finnish Embassy in partnership with Meltwater Entrepreneurial School of Technology (MEST) and STEMbees.
Under the project workshops will be organized for up to 40 children and youngsters aged between 12 and 20 years (at least half of them being girls). It is to promote cooperation between innovators and businesses, partners with local technology hubs in building capacity of programming instructors and help increase familiarity and confidence with technology among youth at grassroots level.
The Hon. Minister commended the Finnish Ambassador for the promotion of technology development and girl child education. This is a passion she totally shares with the Ambassador and informed the Ambassador of Government’s commitment in that direction. She conveyed the Government’s appreciation for Finland’s involvement in the development of Ghana’s broadband infrastructure and satisfaction of the work undertaken by Nokia on the Eastern Corridor optic fibre project and looks forward to greater cooperation.
