Indian High Commissioner Calls on Communications Minister

The Indian High Commissioner to Ghana, His Excellency Birender Singh paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Communications Hon. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful and used the opportunity to congratulate her on her appointment to the Office of Minister. He talked about issues relating to Ghana Indian collaborations in the Communications Sector.

He said there are major initiatives that the India high Commission is willing to help government with. Such initiatives include Skills development and the introduction of Telemedicine across our educational sector.  He also mentioned the harmonization of all ID cards in Ghana into a single ID card where information needed could be easily accessed through this ID card system. India is ready to assist Ghana take that initiative, He added.

The Minister for Communications gave a warm welcome to the High Commissioner and said she was very appreciative of the visit. She hinted plans for the upscaling of the Ghana India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT.  She said government would want the centre to be the finishing school for all IT professionals in the public sector. The centre would be the ICT hub for the Sub region where people will come from all of Africa to acquire the needed training in ICT. He called on the High Commissioner to be part of the expansion process in order to give Ghanaians the opportunity to expand their scope in skills training especially pertaining to the dynamism in the technology industry.
