The Ministry of Communication and Digitalisation has successfully concluded a five-day Training of Trainers programme under the Girls-In-ICT initiative. Held at the Ghana Digital Centres in Accra, this program has equipped 100 teachers with essential ICT skills, preparing them to train 1,000 girls from Primary Four to Junior High School (Form 1-2).

The initiative, which ran from June 10 to June 14, was organized in partnership with the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC), the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Center of Excellence in ICT (GI-KACE), and the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council (GARCC), along with other stakeholders.
The training aimed to enhance teachers’ capacities in Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs). The curriculum covered a range of topics, including Introduction to Computer Programming, Scratch, Website Development, Game Development, E-Safety, and Coding. These modules were designed to ensure that teachers are well-prepared to impart ICT knowledge to the selected 1000 girls from 29 districts within the Greater Accra Region.
The Administrator of GIFEC, Madam Eva Andoh-Pokua, along with other directors, was present to congratulate the teachers on completing the course.
She emphasized the importance of continuous practice to maintain and improve their newly acquired skills. “Your dedication to mastering these ICT skills is crucial. Stay committed to practicing what you have learned, as you will soon be responsible for training the next generation of digital leaders,” she stated.
During her interaction with the teachers, Madam Andor praised the instructors for their effective teaching methods, noting the positive feedback from the participants. She highlighted the instructors’ role in ensuring the programm’s success and the evident progress made by the trainees.

Mrs. Lilian Baeka, Chief Director of GARCC, expressed her gratitude to the organisers for such an important programme. She acknowledged the significant impact of the training on the teachers, which she believes will extend beyond the immediate beneficiaries. “This program has not only equipped the teachers with new ICT skills but will also enrich the educational landscape of their respective schools. The knowledge gained here will have a lasting impact on our educational system,” Mrs. Baeka remarked.
The closing day was filled with excitement and a sense of accomplishment among the participants and facilitators. The successful execution of the program underscores the commitment of the Ministry of Communication and Digitalisation and its partners to bridging the digital divide and empowering the next generation of women in ICT.
