The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Hon. Samuel Nartey George, has held discussions with the leadership of Ericsson on strengthening Ghana’s digital infrastructure, network resilience and digital skills development.
The Minister called for better coordination to protect fibre-optic infrastructure during road construction, noting that reducing avoidable fibre cuts would save resources that could instead be invested in extending connectivity to underserved communities.
Discussions also focused on Ghana’s ambition to become a leading technology hub in Africa and opportunities for Ericsson to support the One Million Coders Programme, particularly in creating pathways for trained beneficiaries into sustainable technology careers.
On digital financial services, the two sides discussed strengthening network resilience to support cross-border payment systems and exploring offline capabilities to ensure continuity of essential digital services during network disruptions.
Hon. Sam George also discussed Ghana’s proposed advocacy at the upcoming ITU conference in Doha for stronger international protection of civilian telecommunications infrastructure, particularly critical connectivity supporting hospitals and other essential services.
The engagement comes as Ericsson marks 30 years of operations and partnership in the region.
