Africa Regional Development Forum 2018

The Ministry of Communications has held a press briefing to throw more light on the upcoming International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Forum to be held in Ghana. The three day forum will take place at the Accra International Conference Centre from 18th to 21st July, 2018.

In his remarks at the briefing, the Deputy Minister of Communications, Hon George Andah noted that the Ministry has initiated major policies to complement the Digital agenda drive of Government. The initiatives include the implementation of the Ghana card, mobile money interoperability, digital addressing system and a robust cyber security policy to safe guard all the initiatives rolled out by Government.

He stressed that Ghana has become the hub in the sub region for the prosecution of cyber crime related issues and the creation of the policy document addressing children online practices and the kind of content they are exposed to.

Mr. Andrew Rugege, the Regional Director of ITU in Africa stated that the Regional Development Forum provides members and non-members the opportunity for high level dialogue between Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT) and decision makers of ITU member states.

The main pillars of the forum include the following:
To ensure building digital economies and fostering innovation in Africa.
The promotion of emerging broadband technologies by members.
To build trust and security in the use of telecommunication/information and communication technology.
To strengthen human and institutional capacity building
To manage and monitor radio frequency spectrum and transmission to digital broadcasting.
