Ursula Tours GIFEC Projects in the Western Region

Mrs. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, the Minister of Communications and Digitisation, has commissioned a fully-furnished Information and Communication Technology (ICT) laboratory for the Sefwi-Waiwso Senior High School in the Waiwso Municipality of the Western North Region.

The laboratory, which has 40 new desktop computers with accessories, was funded by the Ghana Investment for Electronic Communications (GIFEC) and aims at providing ICT opportunities to schools as part of the efforts to bridge the digital gap in the country.

Asantewaa Fauchie wins Girls-in-ICT

Fifteen year old Asantewaa Fauchie from Sefwi Kofikrom D/A JHS in the Juaboso District has been adjudged winner of the 2021 edition of the Girls-in-ICT program in the Western North Region of Ghana.
For her prize, she receives a cash of 2000 Ghana Cedis; a laptop and a plaque.

She was the best out of a thousand girls. This was disclosed at a ceremony held at the Catholic Pastoral Center today, Wednesday (15th September, 2021).

Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation Holds Mentorship Program

Thousand girls from selected basic schools in Sefwi Wiawso in the Western North Region have participated in the Mentorship program organised by the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation as part of its flagship program, Girls-in-ICT under the theme: Connected Girls, Creating Brighter Futures.
The Girls-in-ICT is an initiative of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), aimed at encouraging Girls to opt for careers within the Information and Communication Technology ICT (Sector).

Ursula pays courtesy call on Sefwi Wiawso paramountcy

Minister for Communications and Digitalisation (MoCD), Mrs Owusu-Ekuful has paid a courtesy call on the paramountcy of the Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Area.
The visit forms part of the Minister's tour of the region as the first port of call.
Accompanying the Minister were the Chief Director, Mrs Magdalene Apenteng, Director, Research Statistics and Information Management (RSIM), Mr. Alfred Nortey; Mr Prince Sefa, Administrator, Gifec; Ms Eva Andoh-Opoku, Deputy Administrator, Gifec; the Municipal Chief Executive for Sefwi Wiawso , Hon. Lewis Owusu Agyapong.

Beneficiaries of Girls-in-ICT happy with the Project

Beneficiaries of Girls-in-ICT project in Sefwi Wiawso in the Western North Region have expressed happiness with the introduction of the program and introducing them to the use of computers and ICT in general.
The Girls-in-ICT is a flagship program of the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation.
Under the Girls-in-ICT project, Nine (9) Districts in Western North and Prestea Huni Valley have been selected to present 1000 girls to be trained in Basic Computer Skills, Fundamentals of Programming, Scratch and HTML.

Ursula tours rehabilitated post offices in Central Region

The Minister for Communications and Digitalisation Mrs. Ursula Owusu Ekuful has urged the Ghana Post to maximize the use of existing infrastructure to position the company as the front runner in the industry.

The legislature made this call on her visit to some rehabilitated post offices in the Central Region.

The E-transform project under the MoCD financed by the World Bank is rehabilitating 25 selected Post offices to provide e-Services.

Training Underway for 1000 girls in the Western North Region

The Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation has began training in Basic Computer Skills, Fundamentals of Programming, Scratch and HTML for 1000 girls in nine Districts in Western North and Prestea Huni Valley in Western Region. The training will be organised in two (2) batches.

The training of the first batch of 500 started from Monday, 30th August to 3rd September. The training 2nd batch of 500 girls will commence tomorrow, Monday, 6th September to Saturday, 11th September 2021.

350 Public Sector agencies on the Smart workplace – Ursula

Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, Mrs Ursula Owusu-Ekuful says about 350 public sector agencies are currently using the Smart Workplace Platform.

The Smart Workplace is a virtual workplace platform which provides document management, correspondent management, email services, remote working capabilities is connected to themes.

 ” I do not know how the public services would have worked during the lockdown without the smart workplace. It is a very helpful tool that helped us during the pandemic”.

National SIM card registration takes off next month ( October)

The Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation (MoCD) will launch the National SIM Card Registration Exercise across the country next month, October 1 2021.
The Subscriber Identity Module Registration Regulations, 2011, L.I 2006 mandates network operators or service providers to activate a Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) only after the subscriber registers the SIM as directed by the NCA.

Digital Gender Disparity, a developmental concern - URSULA

Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, Mrs Ursula Owusu-Ekuful (MP) says the gross underrepresentatn of girls in Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines is not just an educational challenge but a developmental concern which needs to be addressed if we are to harness the benefits technology offers for our people.
