The Deputy Minister for Communications, Hon. Vincent Sowah Odotei on Friday, November 3, 2017 officially commissioned and handed over an Enhanced Community Information Centre constructed by the Ministry of Communications to the Nkoranza community in the Brong Ahafo Region.
The Enhanced Community Information Centres (eCICs) are to ensure that every community has access to ICT facilities across the country.
The eCICs have the following facilities: 80 computer tables and chairs, 24 U server rack, 6 air conditioners, internet switch, 20 desktop computers, a server, office desk and chair, 1 UPS, multi TV Dish, 1 photocopier machine, Router, 1 scanner, Internet Café, 1 flat screen television, library, 1 projector, kitchen, conference room and a secretariat.
The mandate of the Ministry according to Hon. Odotei is driven by the vision of H.E. President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, to promote the use of ICT for the country’s transformation.
He noted that these Centres would soon be connected to the national broadband network to enable them deliver government services online thereby bringing government closer to the people, reduce travel time to access these services and, of course, save money in patronizing these services. He called on the users of the eCICs to take good care of the investment as encouragement to the other communities who are yet to benefit from the Ministry’s programme.

The use of internet, mobile phones and computers to perform our day to day activities has some adverse effects which if not properly handled could be disastrous for the entire community, Ghana and the world. In this regard, the Ministry of Communications has put a number of mechanisms in place to address issues such as cyber-crime, cyber security and the abuse of children online.
Hon. Odotei expressed his gratitude to the Chief and traditional authorities of the Nkoranza community and urged them to encourage the citizens to acquire their new ICT skills through this eCIC. He however pleaded with the Managers of the facility to monitor its use to ensure its full potential is derived for the benefit of the Nkoranza community and its environs.
