3.9 billion people lack access to ICT, ITU calls for change

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Telecom World 2017 conference opened today with an urgent call on governments as well as local and global ICT players to work together and connect the 3.9 billion people who lack ICT access in the world today. ITU Secretary-General Houlin Zhao, who made the call at the grand opening ceremony, observed that whereas it was refreshing to note that 95 percent of the world today has mobile connections, it is sad to note 3.9 billion people were yet to be connected.

Government embarks on digital inclusion agenda

The Government of Ghana through the Ministry of Communications is playing a pivotal role in the development of a robust framework to support the digitisation of the economy in a manner that captures and benefits every citizen.
This is contained in a statement issued by Minister of Communications, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful in line with the just opened ITU Telecoms World 2017 Conference in Busan, South Korea.

Beneficiaries of free Senior High School receive encouragement

The Minister for Communications, Hon Ursula Owusu-Ekuful has charged pioneers of the free Senior High school policy to make Government proud for introducing the Policy. She urged the first year students to stay focused by taking their studies seriously and listen to their teachers in order to come out successfully. The Minister said this when she paid a working visit to some Senior High Schools in the Ablekuma West Constituency where she doubles as the Member of Parliament for the area.

Training for NCA’s National Service Personnel launched

A two-month intensive training programme has been launched for one hundred and seventy (170) National Service Personnel attached to the National Communications Authority (NCA) for the 2017/18 service year. The training programme which is tailored to orient and develop them as they get ready to serve in various roles in the Authority, and part of a year-long programme for the service personnel, will further give in-depth insight into the various functions of the NCA in addition to other career-enhancing skills. These are aimed at preparing the personnel for the world of work.

Ghana Marks International Girls in ICT Day

The Ghana-Indian Kofi -Annan Centre in ICT hosted a stakeholder celebration of Girls in ICT day. The day is set aside to motivate young girls in the country and to empower them to consider careers in the growing field of ICT. The celebration was under the theme “Expand Horizons, change attitudes”.

Minister for Communications Pays a Familiarisation Visit to NCA

On Monday 8th May, 2017, the Hon. Minister for Communications, Mrs Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, payed a working visit to the National Communications Authority (NCA) to familiarise with the operations of the Authority. The Hon. Minister was accompanied by the Minister for Information, Hon. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid and Deputy Minister for Communications, Hon Vincent Sowah Odotei.

She urged NCA Management of the need for an inter-ministerial or cross-sectorial engagement to deal with these issues

Minister of Communications Fraternizes With Data Protection Commission

As part of her official duties, the Minister of Communications scheduled a meeting with the Data Protection Commission, an Agency of the ministry to fraternize with management and staff of the commission. Hon. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful was taken round the office and introduced to staff of the Commission. The Minister informed that it was incumbent on her to pay a visit to familiarize herself with the operations of the Commission.

Indian High Commissioner Calls on Communications Minister

The Indian High Commissioner to Ghana, His Excellency Birender Singh paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Communications Hon. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful and used the opportunity to congratulate her on her appointment to the Office of Minister. He talked about issues relating to Ghana Indian collaborations in the Communications Sector.
