Minister visits Ghana Domain Name Registry

Communications and Digitalization Minister, Mrs Ursula Owusu-Ekuful (MP) on Monday 19th April, 2021 visited the Ghana Domain Name Registry (GDNR) as part of her tour of the agencies of the Ministry.

In her interaction with Management and Staff of the GDNR, Minister revealed that the Ongoing digitisation of the entire public sector makes Ghana Domain Name Registry one of the important institutions to help keep data generated here in the country.

On his part, the Executive Director, Kofi Asafu- Aidoo of GNDR stressed on the need to encourage more people to use the dot GH domain name. That, he said, will be a huge step towards keeping data generated in the country under the laws of Ghana. "A lot of people create digital content which is hosted abroad". That should change once the re delegation was completed and extensive marketing of the benefits of hosting domains locally in addition to other measures to reduce costs was undertaken.

Mrs Owusu-Ekuful directed the GNDR to put together a roadmap to ensure that the transfer or handing over from the to the GNDR as the registry mandated by law to manage the dot GH namespace in Ghana is successfully completed this year. This will enable the GDNR as a registry to have control of the management of dot GH namespace
