
The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Hon Samuel Nartey George (MP) has underscored the significant innovation and quality of work within Ghana’s tech ecosystem. This emphasis followed a familiarisation tour of the Tech companies on Wednesday, 30th April, 2025.
The Minister’s visits highlighted the Ministry’s renewed mandate under President Mahama, focused on championing Ghana’s dynamic digital and innovation agenda. Hon. Samuel Nartey George confirmed that the Ministry’s recent rebranding, accurately reflects the country’s burgeoning digital transformation.
The tour commenced at Zipline’s Medical Drone Centre in Suhum. Here, the Minister lauded the company’s accomplishments in delivering essential health supplies across the region. Recognising Zipline’s capacity to extend beyond healthcare, the Ministry expressed significant interest in collaborating on specialised training initiatives covering areas like drone flight operations, warehousing and inventory management.
Honourable Samuel Nartey George stated their vision is to train 10,000 young people through such partnerships as part of national capacity-building efforts. He also assured Zipline of the Ministry’s support to explore joint opportunities to maximise drone technology’s utility for more Ghanaians.
The tour also included a visit to GrowForMe, an innovative agricultural crowdfunding platform. The Minister stressed its dedication to leading digital policy across the Agri-tech, Health-tech, Fin-tech, and Edu-tech sectors. Minister Samuel Nartey George revealed plans to develop specific legislation and a roadmap for Agri-tech, alongside working with the Ministries of Agriculture and Trade to boost strategic support for digital agricultural initiatives.
Demonstrating this support practically, The Minister personally invested GH¢15,000 via the GrowForMe platform to sponsor a three-acre soybean farm located in the Northern Region. This action aims to empower farmers, particularly women, enabling them to access inputs for the upcoming planting season.
Additionally, the tour stopped at Shaq Express, a tech-driven service provider. The Minister encouraged Shaq Express to apply for grant funding under the ‘Adwumawura Programme’ and to seek further assistance from the Ghana Enterprise Agency.
Concluding the tour at Huawei Ghana, Hon. Samuel Nartey George commended the company’s steadfast commitment to backing the national “One Million Coders” initiative, designed to equip Ghanaians with crucial digital skills. Huawei has committed to train 100,000 individuals over four years, with the entire cost covered by the company.
This training will be delivered through a blended approach combining online courses, university-based training, and in-person learning at Huawei’s headquarters in China.
The Minister expressed profound appreciation to Huawei Ghana on behalf of President Mahama and the people of Ghana for this “transformative partnership”. Preparations for the initial phase, which targets 25,000 trainees this year, are set to begin immediately.
