
The Deputy Minister, Mohammed Adam Sukparu (MP) has highlighted Ghana’s commitment to transitioning Africa from digital dependence to digital determination, “We can no longer remain passive consumers of imported technologies and narratives; we must become active architects of homegrown solutions and creators of globally competitive brands.”
He was speaking on behalf of the Sector Minister, Hon. Samuel Nartey George (MP), at the opening of the AMC–TICON Africa Joint Conference today, August 20th, 2025, held at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra.
According to him, under the leadership of His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama, Ghana has embraced a forward-looking digital agenda, positioning itself as a leader, pioneer, and continental hub for innovation and technological advancement. “This vision is paving the way for a continental reset, reimagining Africa’s trajectory towards inclusive growth, resilience, and global relevance”.
Highlighting Ghana’s digital transformation journey, the Deputy Minister outlined several initiatives being undertaken by the Ministry. These include the $1 billion Ghana–UAE Tech and Innovation Hub, expected to attract global tech giants like Google, Microsoft, and Apple alongside African talent, with Phase One set to commence in 2026 and will be completed by end of 2027.
He also mentioned the One Million Coders Programme, aimed at training young Ghanaians in cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and machine learning through partnerships with global technology firms such as Huawei, MTN, Amazon Web Services, and Oracle, adding, it is not just about skills development, it is about building a generation of creators, problem-solvers and digital leaders.
Hon.Sukparu underscored the role of marketing in shaping Africa’s digital future, describing it as the bridge between innovation and impact and called on African marketers to rebrand the continent as a vibrant hub of opportunities while leveraging platforms like the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) to unlock intra-African commerce.
“This conference is a call to action for us to build a digitally empowered Africa. Let us move from vision to velocity, from potential to performance,” he stated.
The Deputy Minister commended the African Marketing Confederation (AMC) and the Technology Information Confederation Africa (TICON) for their collaboration, emphasising the power of cross-sector partnerships in driving inclusive and sustainable growth.
