As part of preparations towards the successful implementation of the Girls-In-ICT Programme in the Upper West Region, a joint team from the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations; the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC), and the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT (GI-KACE) embarked on a venue assessment exercise across selected districts.
The purpose of the visit was to ascertain the suitability and readiness of the proposed training centres for hosting this year’s programme, which seeks to empower girls with digital skills and promote ICT education in the region.
The inspection covered a number of Senior High Schools and Community Day Schools identified as potential training sites. Institutions visited included:
1. Nandom Senior High School
2. Lawra Senior High School
3. St. Francis Girls, Jirapa
4. Wa West (Lassie Toulo)
5. Wa East Community Day School
6. Nadowli Queen of Peace and other selected institutions across the region.
During the visits, the team evaluated the infrastructure, accessibility, ICT facilities, and the overall environment of each school to ensure they are fit for purpose in accommodating the hundreds of girls expected to participate in the training.
This exercise forms a critical step in the broader preparation process, ensuring that the programme not only delivers on its mandate of providing digital literacy and coding skills but also does so in a safe, conducive, and well-equipped environment.
