Ghana’s digital infrastructure received a major boost today as Digital Realty, a global leader in data centre and interconnection services, officially commissioned its ACR2 Data Centre in Accra.
The newly launched ACR2 facility marks a turning point in Ghana’s digitalisation agenda, providing a local solution to global data demands. With a capacity to support 1.7 megawatts of IT load and house 500 server racks, the centre positions Ghana as a key data hub in West Africa.
Speaking at the launch, Hon. Samuel Nartey George commended Digital Realty for its strategic investment, noting that the centre directly supports Ghana’s data localisation and digital sovereignty policies.
He stressed that with facilities such as ACR2, Ghana is now equipped to host and manage local data within its borders, ensuring compliance with emerging data protection regulations while attracting global technology players to invest in-country.
He further noted that the government’s Localisation Policy and Data Harmonisation Act create an enabling environment for digital innovation, while initiatives like ACR2 will help reduce latency, enhance security, and strengthen national digital resilience.
The Minister also toured the facility to get first hand information on the day-to-day operations of the organisation.
For his part, the Managing Director of Digital Realty Ghana, Mr. Joseph Koranteng, described ACR2 as more than just a data facility—it is a digital gateway for the sub-region. Strategically located, it hosts two major submarine cables and connects directly to Digital Realty’s international network of more than 300 data centres across six continents.
Mr. Koranteng explained that the project was built by Ghanaian engineers and designed to meet global performance and security standards. It offers a reliable environment for businesses, startups, and multinational enterprises to expand operations without dependence on offshore data infrastructure.
