Mr. Acheampong’s professional career began at the National Communications Authority (NCA) of Ghana, where he served as an Officer in the Frequency Management Division from January 2007 to February 2011. In this role, he was responsible for monitoring the spectrum and conducting inspections of broadcasting and telecom equipment and installations. His diligent work in this capacity laid the groundwork for a series of promotions within the NCA, where he consistently demonstrated leadership and technical acumen.
In March 2011, Mr. Acheampong was promoted to Assistant Manager in the Engineering Division of the NCA. Over the next two years, he played a crucial role in spectrum planning and management, particularly in the VHF/UHF Land Mobile and FM Broadcasting frequencies. He was instrumental in updating the Frequency Register and inspecting broadcasting and telecom installations. His contributions to spectrum monitoring and planning were vital in ensuring the efficient allocation and use of frequencies in Ghana.
Seeking to further his expertise, Mr. Acheampong pursued a Master of Science degree in Wireless Communications at Brunel University in the United Kingdom from 2011 to 2012. This advanced degree equipped him with cutting-edge knowledge and skills in wireless communications, enhancing his ability to contribute to Ghana’s communications sector at a higher level.
Upon his return to Ghana, Mr. Acheampong continued to ascend the ranks at the NCA. From March 2014 to June 2017, he served as Deputy Manager in the Engineering Division. In this capacity, he was responsible for developing spectrum policy for various services, including the use of the 60GHz and 70GHz/80GHz bands. He also assisted with planning and managing VHF/UHF Land Mobile and Microwave frequencies and resolving frequency interference issues. His efforts were critical in shaping the regulatory framework for emerging wireless technologies in Ghana.
In July 2017, Mr. Acheampong was appointed as the Manager of the Engineering Division at the NCA, a position he held until January 2021. During this period, he oversaw the management of all broadcasting-related services and assisted the Deputy Director of Engineering in managing the Broadcasting Service. He also played a key role in resolving frequency interference and ensuring the smooth operation of broadcasting services across the country. His leadership in this role was instrumental in maintaining the integrity and efficiency of Ghana’s broadcasting infrastructure.
Parallel to his technical career, Mr. Acheampong is also deeply involved in public service. He is a Member of Parliament for the Lower West Akim Constituency, having served in various capacities, including Vice Chairman of the Committee of Gender and Children, and as a member of several other committees such as Defence and Interior, Works and Housing, Communications, and Public Accounts. His legislative work is complemented by his positions on the boards of the Minerals Commission of Ghana and the Ghana News Agency (GNA), where he has served since 2017.
Mr. Acheampong’s achievements are numerous and reflect his broad expertise and dedication. He chaired the committee that studied the development of the Salt Authority in Ghana and led efforts to analyze and assess mobile network coverage, identifying underserved and unserved areas. He has been a key player in developing policies on the use of TV white space technology and has represented Ghana at international conferences, such as the Dynamic Spectrum Alliance conference held in Accra. Additionally, he has contributed to the selection of consultants for significant projects, including the assessment and design of data centers and communication network upgrades for the Electricity Company of Ghana.
One of his notable contributions includes his involvement in the award and licensing procedures for the sixth mobile license in Ghana and broadband wireless access in the 2.5GHz frequency band. He has also been instrumental in establishing a Broadcast Monitoring Center in Ghana and is a member of the 5G working group, tasked with overseeing the development and implementation of 5G technology in the country.
