The Minister of Communications and Digitalisation, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, has donated 11,509 different reading books to two libraries attached to Information and Communications Technology (ICT) facilities in the Birim Central Municipality and Achiase District, all in the Eastern Region.
The novels, religion and history books are to improve the reading skills of pupils and students to enable them to achieve their future dreams.
Seven thousand five hundred and nine (7,509) of the books were given to the Akim Oda Christina Akua Brago Diawuo Library and Technology Hub in the Birim Central Municipality, while 4,000 of the books were presented to the Janet Brako Community Library and ICT Centre at Bieni in the Achiase District.
The gesture is to promote education and ICT skills development in the two towns and their surrounding communities.
During the presentations, Mrs Owusu-Ekuful said the books would enable the students and pupils to acquire knowledge through reading to become more efficient in social development, for the advancement of the communities in the area and the country.
She said students and pupils in the two areas would be empowered to contribute their quota to the development of the communities.
The Minister, who indicated that the gesture was to support the Member of Parliament for Akim Oda, Alexander Akwasi Acquah, to provide educational materials to pupils and students in the areas, pleaded with parents to ensure that their children utilised the books.
That, Mrs Owusu-Ekuful stated, would enable their children to be better educated to become useful citizens.
