Accra, Jan. 23, MoCDTI- The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Hon. Samuel Nartey George (MP) has launched the Code4Food Security Fellowship at the Ghana–India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT (GI-KACE) in Accra, describing the initiative as a critical intervention that aligns with Government’s digitalisation and national development agenda.
Speaking at the launch on Friday, 23rd January 2026, the Minister noted that the Fellowship sits within Government’s vision of building a productive, inclusive and technology-driven economy under the leadership of His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama.
He emphasised that digital innovation, data science and artificial intelligence are increasingly central not only to economic growth but also to food security and national security.
Hon. Samuel Nartey George highlighted the importance of applying digital solutions across key sectors such as agriculture, logistics, climate monitoring and food systems.
He cited recent progress made by the Ministry in integrating early warning systems onto the Ghana Meteorological Agency’s platform, enabling the use of credible data for planning and decision-making.
According to him, food security has gradually become a core national security issue, making initiatives like Code4Food both timely and strategic.
The Minister further linked the Fellowship to the Government’s flagship One Million Coders Programme, which aims to equip young people with foundational and advanced digital skills in areas such as data science, cyber security and artificial intelligence.
He explained that initiatives like Code4Food serve as proof-of-concept pathways, demonstrating how beneficiaries of large-scale training programmes can transition into specialised fellowships, innovation tracks and enterprise creation.
Hon. Nartey George described the Code4Food Security Fellowship as a strategic partnership that compliments Government efforts to deepen AI adoption, strengthen public-private collaboration and position Ghana as a regional leader in responsible and applied digital innovation.
The Minister expressed appreciation to all partners supporting the Fellowship and reaffirmed Government’s commitment to scaling digital skills, supporting innovative ecosystems and ensuring that technology directly advances Ghana’s development priorities.
