The National AI Masterclass – Akuse Cohort 2 has officially commenced, running from 21st to 25th March, as part of Ghana’s ongoing efforts to strengthen public sector capacity in digital innovation and artificial intelligence.
Organised under the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations in collaboration with Ai Africa and Knowledge Web Center, the training brings together public sector professionals (Deputy Director’s and Senior Officers and their equivalent grades) to develop practical skills in AI application, policy support, and data-driven decision-making.
The Chief Director for the Ministry, Mr. Alexander Yaw Arphul, who welcomed trainers highlighted the importance in equipping public sector professionals with the practical skills needed for AI-driven governance. He noted that initiatives like this are central to Ghana’s efforts to enhance institutional efficiency, improve service delivery, and position public institutions at the forefront of the digital economy.
Facilitated by Dr. Dr. David King Boison of AI Africa Knowledge Web Center, the programme focuses on moving beyond basic AI use to building integrated intelligence systems that support national development, institutional efficiency, and improved service delivery.
Speaking at the session, Dr. Boison emphasized that “AI alone is not enough; true national transformation requires the integration of human judgment, strategy, ethics, and multiple forms of intelligence.”
The Director for Digital Technology, Dr Samuel Antwi-Gyekye on his part indicated that the AI Experts Training Program is aimed at strengthening institutional capacity for Ghana’s 24-Hour Economy policy agenda.
According to him, about 100 government officials from various Ministries and Agencies has already been trained at the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council, equipping them with skills needed to integrate artificial intelligence into governance and national development planning.
The initiative, he noted, forms part of broader effort to position Ghana’s public institutions for effective participation in the digital economy.
