The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Hon. Samuel Nartey George (MP), will tomorrow officially launch the 15th Africa Internet Governance Forum (AfIGF 2026) at the Ministry’s Conference Room in Accra.
The launch marks the formal commencement of Ghana’s preparations to host one of Africa’s most important digital governance gatherings under the theme, “Advancing Africa’s Digital Future Through Innovation, Inclusion, and Trust.” Hosted in collaboration with the AfIGF Secretariat and key multistakeholder partners, the Forum is expected to convene governments, parliamentarians, private sector leaders, the technical community, academia, civil society, youth groups, development partners, and international institutions from across Africa and beyond.
AfIGF 2026 comes at a strategic moment as Africa advances implementation of the African Union Digital Transformation Strategy 2020–2030, the WSIS+20 process, Agenda 2063, and the Global Digital Compact. Discussions during the Forum will focus on critical issues including Artificial Intelligence and emerging technologies, cybersecurity and digital trust, digital inclusion and meaningful connectivity, online safety, platform governance, climate change, and youth and gender participation in digital governance processes.
The Forum is also expected to strengthen Africa’s coordination and engagement in global Internet governance processes ahead of the Global Internet Governance Forum 2026 in Nairobi, Kenya, while promoting African perspectives, innovation, and policy priorities within global digital cooperation discussions.
According to the Ministry, the launch event will outline the structure of AfIGF 2026, proposed thematic tracks, and opportunities for stakeholder participation, with particular emphasis on inclusive multistakeholder engagement and expanding the participation of youth and women in digital policy dialogue.
The Africa Internet Governance Forum serves as the continent’s premier multistakeholder platform for dialogue, collaboration, and policy exchange on Internet and digital governance issues, aligned with the global Internet Governance Forum process established following the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS).
