The Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI), in collaboration with the Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMET) and CBrain Consulting, has presented the findings and recommendations of an IT and Digitalisation Gap Analysis Assessment conducted for GMET to the Deputy Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Hon. Mohammed Adam Sukparu (MP), on behalf of the Sector Minister, Hon. Samuel Nartey George (MP).
The stakeholder meeting, held on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at the Ministry, formed part of efforts to strengthen GMET’s digital transformation and enhance its capacity to deliver efficient, technology-driven weather and climate services.
The delegation was led by the Director-General of the Danish Meteorological Institute, Madam Marianne Thyrring, and the Director-General of GMET, Mr. Eric Asuman.
As part of the engagement, the team presented an overview of DMI’s digital transformation journey, highlighting experiences and lessons that could support GMET’s ongoing efforts to modernise its information technology infrastructure and digital systems.
The IT Gap Analysis findings and recommendations were presented by the Regional Manager of CBrain Consulting, Mr. Christ Declercq.
The assessment examined GMET’s ICT infrastructure, digital systems, data governance arrangements, cybersecurity framework, business processes and digital capabilities, while identifying key gaps and proposing interventions to support the Agency’s digital transformation.
The assessment was undertaken under the Strategic Sector Cooperation on Weather and Climate between Ghana and Denmark, with the objective of supporting the development of a robust digital architecture capable of improving the Agency’s operational efficiency and service delivery.
The Deputy Minister, Hon. Mohammed Adam Sukparu, welcomed the engagement and underscored the importance of translating the findings of the assessment into a practical and sustainable implementation roadmap.
He noted that strengthening GMET’s digital capabilities was critical to improving the management and use of meteorological data, enhancing service delivery and supporting evidence-based decision-making across sectors that depend on accurate weather and climate information.
The meeting also provided an opportunity for participants to discuss possible implementation scenarios arising from the report and explore areas where the Ministry, GMET and its development partners could collaborate to address identified gaps.
The discussions further focused on ensuring that the proposed interventions align with Ghana’s broader digital transformation agenda and create sustainable systems and capabilities within GMET.
