

The Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation (MoCD) in collaboration with the Huawei Ghana has trained a total number of 70 Female Tertiary Students digital skills as part efforts in inspiring young women in the field of technology over the years.
The students were selected from some public and private universities across the country.
The Deputy Minister, Ms. Ama Pomaa-Boateng (MP), who read a speech on behalf of the Sector Minister, Mrs. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful (MP), commended Huawei for its continuous support towards the country’s digital transformation agenda and commitment dedicated to equipping the youth especially the women with digital skills.

Mrs.Owusu-Ekuful, said that it was in this regard that the Government of Ghana was resolutely committed to promoting Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education through strategic partnership with industry leaders like Huawei Ghana.

She noted that the commitment which was currently being championed by her outfit and the Ministry of Education does not only align with Ghana’s Digital Transformation Agenda but also exemplifies “our dedication to fostering a digitally inclusive society. Our goal is to leave no one behind, and this can only be achieved by equipping the youth with the requisite digital skills needed to thrive in the 21st Century”.

The Minister added that the government would continue to partner initiatives like the Huawei Seeds for the Future programme to offer industry relevant trainings to our youth. “Over the past 8 days, these young talents have worked tirelessly to ensure that the training they received becomes a catalyst for meaningful change.
“Our beneficiaries under this programme, competed with their colleagues from Algeria and pitched innovative ideas that can help solve some concerning problems we face in Ghana like Galamsey, Cervical cancer, late detection of fire outbreaks and long waiting hours at hospitals leading to death among others. These innovative solutions pitched, qualified one of the Ghanaian team (Team SmartMed) to the finals”, she said
The Deputy Director for Huawei Ghana, Mr Kweku Essuman Quansah, also expressed his profound gratitude to it’s partners including the Ministry of Information for their support and thanked the beneficiaries for their interest, time and energy they invested in the program.
As part of the climax, the beneficiaries had mentorship sessions with great female personalities from various fields where they had an interactive discussion on their technological career paths, personal lives and social lives.
The program was a wonderful way for Huawei Ghana to invest in the future of technology and nurture the next generation of innovators. Awards were given to deserving personalities and students who made great contributions and outstanding achievements in this year’s program.
