The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George (MP), has received a delegation from the Ghana Civil Service Council on a familiarisation visit aimed at strengthening institutional collaboration and enhancing public sector service delivery.
The visit, held on Wednesday, 13th May 2026, forms part of a nationwide engagement by the Council across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to deepen understanding of institutional operations, assess challenges, and align administrative support with national development priorities.
The delegation was led by the Council Chair, Dr. Lawrence Kannae, and the Head of the Civil Service, Dr. Evans Aggrey-Darkoh. Other members included Dr. Evans A. Dzikum, Dr. Esther Ofei-Aboakye, Ambassador Kwame Asamoah Tenkorang, Justice Agnes Mercy A. Dordzie (Rtd), Mr. Charles Kwame Dondieu, Dr. Audrey Smock Amoah, and the Chief Director at the Office of the Head of Civil Service, Mr. Sylvanus Kofi Adzornu.
Welcoming the Council members, the Minister underscored the importance of sustained engagement between policy leadership and the Civil Service in driving effective governance. He reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to leveraging digital technology to improve service delivery, bridge access gaps, and accelerate Ghana’s digital transformation agenda.
The Minister also briefed the delegation on key achievements of the Ministry, highlighting ongoing institutional reforms aimed at improving efficiency and strengthening performance. He further outlined flagship initiatives, including the One Million Coders Programme and the launch of Ghana’s National Artificial Intelligence Strategy by the President, describing them as critical pillars in building a digitally skilled and innovation-driven economy.
He emphasised the need for stronger collaboration with the Office of the Head of Civil Service and the Civil Service Council to advance Ghana’s digital transformation agenda, noting that effective coordination between policy and administrative arms of government is essential for sustainable impact.
The Minister also used the opportunity to brief the Council on the ongoing SIM card registration exercise and its importance in strengthening national security and improving the integrity of Ghana’s telecommunications ecosystem.
In his remarks, Dr. Kannae noted that the familiarisation visits are designed to promote collaboration, professionalism, and innovation across the public service. He explained that the engagements provide a platform for the Council to interact with MDAs on their mandates, strategic priorities, operational realities, and key challenges.
He added that the exercise focuses on promoting performance-driven public service practices, supporting economic transformation through effective sector coordination, and gathering first-hand insights to inform policy and administrative improvements.
The visit also provided an opportunity for open dialogue on staff capacity, operational challenges, and the need for continuous innovation within the public sector, particularly in the context of rapid digital transformation.
As part of the engagement, Directors of the Ministry made presentations to the Council, highlighting the work of various directorates and ongoing initiatives within the sector.
